Meet Mrs. Heron

A little bit about me...

I am a Peotone School District alumni! I was born and raised in Peotone and completed kindergarten through high school here.  I attended Loyola University of Chicago, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a minor in psychology. When my three kids were all in school, I became a substitute teacher and fell in love working with kids everyday and seeing them learn and grow.  So, I went back to school while working full-time as a Special Education Paraprofessional (Aide).  I received my Master of Arts in Teaching from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. I began my teaching career in Chicago Heights, IL as a third grade teacher before coming to the Peotone School District in 2012.

In addition to teaching, I am involved in the theater department at both the junior high and high school.  I am the director for the junior high plays and musicals. We alternate doing a play and musical every year. Check out the "Junior High Play" tab for more information.

I also love to travel and I enjoying taking students along for the ride. I have been on seven student trips so far, six international trips and one domestic trip.   I believe travel and experiencing other cultures is the best way to come to peace through understanding. The world is a classroom!

My husband and I have been married forever. We have two daughters and one son, all of whom graduated from Peotone High School. I also have two dogs and and two cats. My interests include traveling, reading, sewing, and doing things with my family. I also enjoy black coffee and anything mint chocolate.
