Meet Mrs. Heron

A little bit about me...

I am a Peotone School District alumni! I was born and raised in Peotone and completed kindergarten through high school here.  I attended Loyola University of Chicago, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a minor in psychology. When my three kids were all in school, I became a substitute teacher and fell in love working with kids everyday and seeing them learn and grow.  So, I went back to school while working full-time as a Special Education Paraprofessional (Aide).  I received my Master of Arts in Education from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. I began my teaching career in Chicago Heights, IL as a third grade teacher before coming to the Peotone School District. This is my sixth year in this district, and  I am so excited to be able to give back to the community that has given me so much.

In addition to teaching, I am involved in the theater department at both the junior high and high school.  I have been costume director for several of the high school productions and co-directed the junior high musical "Aladdin Jr." with Ms. McKay, the choir director.  Since then we have performed "The Snow Queen" and  "Little Mermaid Jr," and "The Jungle Book."

I was also a teacher-leader with the People to People Student Ambassador Program, for several international student trips. Last summer I chaperoned a group of students through the States' 4H Exchange Program for a month in Japan! Next summer, I will be leading a group to Paris, Normandy, and London! I believe travel and experiencing other cultures is the best way to come to peace through understanding. The world is a classroom!

My husband and I have been married forever. We have two daughters and one son, all of whom graduated from Peotone High School. I also have two dogs and two cats! My interests include traveling, reading, sewing, and doing things with my family. I also enjoy black coffee, Take 5 candy bars, and anything mint chocolate. And yes, I do ride a a red scooter to work when the weather cooperates!
